I feel alive with a camera in my hand. I shoot mostly 35mm to get closer to my subjects. With a macro lens, I can concentrate on details easily missed and give a more intimate view of my subject. A kiwi is transformed into a celestial landscape; and a summer squash appears as delicate and sensual as the female form.
Every step in the taking and making of a photograph is all part of my personal photographic experience. Paying attention to detail, framing, exposure, printing in the darkroom; the handling and caring for my equipment; listening to the sounds of the shutter during exposure; even the scent of the film turns me on. The practice of photography is technical, physical and emotional. It is part of my aliveness, and who I am. |
